![](https://thumbs.gfycat.com/PresentAcrobaticFowl-size_restricted.gif) hearthclan do not trust the ground beneath your feet; the ice is treacherous, and the winds do not forget your name❅ Moons ago, a small clan known as HearthClan called the wooded shadows of the mountains home. The clan flourished in the little vale, full of good hunting and warm days. The colder moons brought hardship, however, and with it came malice and misbegotten intent. Bloodshed stained the memories of the past leafbare; a murder gripped the clan in the claws of terror. The slain cat was torn limb from limb with almost too little left to mourn. The murderer disappeared into the freezing night without a trace. Whispers soon followed the bloody death, and after them tailed the stories. The murderer was not a cat but a fearsome beast that roamed the dark woods in search of another soul to harvest. Leafbare has returned in full might, and another cat has disappeared from the clan in the dead of night. The forest rings with the wails of a dissatisfied beast. xxx

The heart of HearthClan's territory is nestled in a shallow valley between two mountains. The area is heavily wooded with occasional grassy meadows. Creeks and waterfalls dot the steeper terrain, particularly on the mountain edges of the territory. A central river cuts through the lowest point of the valley, calmer than its feeder creeks but nonetheless swift and dangerous to an unwary cat. Not far off from the river's edge is a small yawning hole. Most cats steer clear of it; fox stench and fur tufts litter the cave opening. Beyond the poorly-lit mouth, darkness stretches.
The camp is built around HearthClan's namesake: a crumbling stack of smooth red stones that is rumored to once have been part of a two-leg nest. The first leader, a former loner, called the strange structure a hearth, thus giving the clan its peculiar name. Announcements are given from the shelf of the hearth, and in a shallow alcove carved into the red stones, the leader sleeps. At the base of the structure is the nursery, shielded by a woven wall of bracken and brambles. The warrior's and apprentice's dens are off to the side, settled underneath a pair of overgrown blueberry bushes. Dug beneath the stone wall beside the hearth is an old rabbit burrow making up the medicine cat den as well as the elder's den. A sandy-soiled dip a few taillengths from the camp makes a good place for kits to play while their mothers rest.
To speak with StarClan, the medicine cat must journey up the rocky mountain faces and to the highest peak. There, in the soft grass and rhododendron blossoms, sharp stones jut skyward from the earth. They are called the Standing Stones, and medicine cats and new leaders sleep at the rock's base to speak with their ancestors.
